Do you think it is important
the Sudanese retain their culture and customs and, if so,
what do you do to ensure they're not adversely affected
by western influences that might contradict their own values?
- Liz, Arkansas USA
"Great question! I don't think that there's any possible
chance
in the near future that you'll find a Starbucks on the corner
of a Sudanese street
. What is culture anyway? Culture
is
just a thing that is history. 20 years ago British culture
was completely different than it is today. So culture changes.
It's
fair enough to say that it will change but I hope that the
people
don't change. I hope the people stay the way they are, spiritually
speaking. They need help but, I think, as far as all the
things that we don't have go - looking after old people,
respect for people, moral stuff - they're so rich in that
and we're poor in that at the moment. I don't see that changing."
